Global Quest Inspires Forest, Habitat Restoration
In pursuit of the most flavorful, sustainable cacao Dagoba’s alchemists travel to the rich regions of the equator. One particularly special area is Upala, a town in north central Costa Rica. In an effort to support this small farming community both economically and environmentally Dagoba is partnering with University of Wisconsin’s Chris Vaughn to plant new trees, including cacao and other native species. In true full circle sustainability spirit this will provide economic benefit to the farmers via larger crop yields, environmental improvement via re-forestation and a greater source of quality cacao for you to enjoy.
Visit www.dagobachocolate.com later in May to learn more about our program in Upala Costa Rica.
Sloth populations indicate a healthy rainforest – we love them!

Delicious Rewards of Sustainability
Dagoba was founded to create exceptional chocolate that benefits people and planet. We wanted to share our commitment to being a sustainable company and hopefully inspire you to do the same. From the cacao farmers of Upala, Costa Rica, to the outdoor fanatics of the Pacific Northwest, Dagoba is dedicated to nurturing our neighbors, community and environment. Here are a few of the ways we stay sustainable, making the smallest footprint possible on the environment:
-
We practice Full Circle Sustainability™ principles that blend quality, ecology, equity and community into each step from the rainforest to consumers.
-
We seek suppliers who support sustainable farming: maintaining and restoring biodiversity, healthy soil, clean water and the environment.
-
We offset all employee commuting and business travel by investing in sustainable forestry projects
-
Our factory has been powered by 100% renewable energy since day one.
-
Food waste is composted on site and we recycle everything possible, including florescent lights, styrofoam, pallets, pallet wrap and shrink wrap.
-
Our landscaping has drought-tolerant plants watered with stored rainwater.
-
Our laundry service uses high temperature water instead of harsh chemicals.
-
Labels are printed on recycled paper and all paperboard is 100% recycled.
-
Office paper and printed materials are 100% post-consumer recycled paper.
-
All packaging, displays and materials are printed with soy-based inks.
We ask for your help in creating zero waste at the consumer end. Please reuse and recycle to help complete the circle.
-
Paper labels, boxes, caddies, shipping cases and syrup jug are recyclable.
-
Canisters and bags for Chocodrops, nibs and panned items are reusable.
-
The paper labels from our bars are great for art projects like origami or customizing our canisters

Partnering with PangeaOrganics and Lexus Hybrid, Dagoba sponsored this past April's Nurture Nature event in New York City. Paul Hawkens was scheduled to speak, but unfortunately couldn't make it due to the flu, however, this didn't stop 300 eco-minded folks from enjoying Dagoba chocolate paninis, mini facials and signed copies of Chris Laszlo's newest book, "Sustainable Value." |
